Job Summary

Supervises employees engaged in serving food and in maintaining cleanliness of food service areas, as well as those employees performing sanitation and utility functions if assigned. Responsible for some portion of a facility's food operation.

Job Responsibilities

  • Displays polite, friendly, efficient and responsive Spirit of Service attitude to clients, co-workers and customers. Responds promptly and positively to patients, families, associates and all others in a respectful, courteous and confidential manner.

  • Maintains professional attire and manner at all times. Ensures that personnel in appropriate uniform.

  • Trains workers in performance of duties and assigns and coordinates work of employees to promote an efficient operation.

  • Ensures timely and efficient food preparation, food delivery, food service and sanitation.

  • Maintains accurate recordkeeping system for employees time cards.

  • Assists in the selection of new employees. Implements disciplinary actions when needed per established policy. Completes performance appraisals per established policy.

  • Supervises serving of meals. Inspects kitchen and dining areas, uses proper kitchen utensils and equipment to ensure sanitary standards are met. Follows established cleaning procedures and schedules.

  • Supervises diet office staff. Supports menu ordering, meal ticket processing and checking for accuracy of patient diet and allergy information. Follows established cleaning procedures and schedules.

  • Maintains departmental records and reports. Keeps records such as meal counts, floor stock and hours worked by employees. Completes opening and closing checklists per department requirements.

  • Participates in department quality control activities including meal rounds, test trays, tray accuracy and other related audits.

  • Follows cost control standards of the hospital and department.

  • Follows department standards of operation and policies and procedures.

  • Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules and expedites workflow. Replaces call outs positions as necessary to maintain effective daily operations while adhering to labor control standards.

  • Assists subordinates in performing duties.

  • Requisitions and inspects foodstuffs, supplies and equipment to maintain stock levels and ensure standards of quality are met.

  • Reports any incidents per hospital policy and corrects and or reports unsafe, unsecured or unclean environment to immediate report and or Environmental, Health and Safety and Facilities Department.

  • Attends all hospital and department mandatory sessions, meetings and in-services. Actively participates as an informed participant in meetings, department and team projects.

  • Adheres to Hospital and department attendance policies and procedures.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of and the ability to render care and services based on age appropriateness and developmental needs of the patients.

  • Adheres to established systems and training programs to provide a safe working environment. Complies with all OSHA regulations and other local, state and federal regulations.

  • Recognizes and adopts activities appropriate to the specific needs of the patient/resident population and demonstrates knowledge of specific issues directly related to age of patient/resident population.
  • Maintains compliance with standards of operation for services especially guidelines for food handling and storage. Maintains all records and reports necessary to comply with department, hospital, government and accrediting agency standards, regulations and codes.

  • Maintains compliance with all requirements of Federal, State and local regulations and guidelines including the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, as amended, and the Americans with Disabilities Act, as amended.

  • Performs all other related duties.

SSC - Serv Safe Certification - 6 months

Required Education and Experience

Required Education:
Associates in Dietetics or Dietary Manager Certification or sufficient previous experience with related demonstrable knowledge and skills.

Supervisory experience required.

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Additional Technical Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret procedural documents and write routine reports and correspondence using prescribed format and conform to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistics.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Management and leadership skills in addition to good planning and organization skills.
