Physician (Cardiologist)

The successful candidate for this Physician (Cardiologist/Electrophysiologist) position will be based at the CMC VA Medical Center working 50 hours biweekly and will also have an appointment and clinical responsibilities at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania working 30 hours biweekly. Hospital appointment details to be discussed during formal interviews. Successful candidates will have training and documented skills in performing trans-septal puncture, advanced arrhythmia ablation including AF and VT ablation, and epicardial mapping. Additionally, candidates should be trained in all aspects of cardiac arrhythmia management devices including the implantation of pacemakers, ICDs, CRT devices, loop recorders, and lead extraction. Additional skills and/or experience needed to successfully complete the duties of the position include:
Working knowledge of sophisticated EP mapping and recording systems; demonstrated ability to perform complex arrhythmia ablations and device implantations without onsite cardiac surgery availability; outpatient consultative cardiology (including Telehealth); inpatient attending in the coronary care unit and consultative services; competency in cardioversion, resuscitation, and temporary pacing. Teaching medical students, house staff and cardiology fellows is a required responsibility for this position with particular preference given to those applicants who have been formally recognized for their teaching ability. A research background in atrial and ventricular tachyarrhythmia mechanisms and treatment is highly desirable. Faculty appointment at the University of Pennsylvania will be as Clinical Instructor or Assistant Professor of Medicine in the non-tenure Academician-Clinician tract. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with credentials and experience. Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Administrative:
Provides guidance and supervision for the medical students and residents (interns, residents, and/or fellows) assigned to Medicine Service/subspecialty services and clinics according to the standards outlined in Center Policy Memorandum, 11-4, Supervision of Postgraduate Residents, when assigned to do so by the Chief, Medicine Service. Participates in and attends medical center committees and/or teams as assigned by the Chief, Medicine Service and in his/her absence or absence of their respective Section Chief. Participates in various facility programs designed to enhance and improve the delivery of patient care services, such as Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) teams, as assigned by Chief, Medicine Service. Clinical:
Provide quality-centered patient care to both inpatient and outpatient adults age 18 years or greater. Demonstrate sound decision-making skills, both clinical and administrative, which bring credit to the profession and serve to enhance the distinctive and contributory role of physicians. Facilitate the delivery of appropriate patient care in collaboration with other health professionals, medical center staff, and management. Participates in multidisciplinary activities involving the treatment plan and discharge plans of patients admitted to the Medicine bed service. Consistently demonstrates expertise in diagnosing and treating seriously ill, multi-symptomatic patients when clinical assignments so dictate. Responsible for the oversight of all aspects of cardiac medical care delivered to patients under their care. They directly provide or supervise fellows, residents, students and/or mid-level providers in the evaluation and treatment of both inpatients and outpatients. Evaluate the patient to assess changes in the physical and mental status during inpatient or outpatient care. Documentation of every encounter will be entered into the electronic medical record, with the appropriate level of detail, with an assessment and plan for acute and ongoing care. Any notes written by the fellow, resident, student or midlevel provider under cardiology supervision are reviewed by the staff Cardiologist, with corrections and additions added in an attending note, as appropriate and in a manner consistent with the VA guidelines for resident and trainee supervision. During assigned times, shall be available for all urgent or emergent assessments requested from any location in the hospital or on-site outpatient clinics and services. Evening and night call will be required as determined by service needs. Participate in various hospital committees, Medicine Service and hospital in-service programs, and education programs of the Medicine Service, the hospital and the Academic Affiliate. Work Schedule:
Tour of duty is varying daylight hours, Monday through Friday; however, weekend and evening hours may occur when Veteran needs arise and includes attending in the Coronary Care Unit and inpatient Consultative Cardiology/ Electrophysiology Service. Financial Disclosure Report:

United States Citizenship:
Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Physical demands include repetitive body movements including the following:

Lifting may be done to move a patient from one location to the next, i.e.- from the exam table to the chair, and in the movement of equipment or supplies. Note:
Must have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification prior to assuming clinical duties. The BLS requirement is satisfied by successfully completing an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Healthcare Provider Course or Military Training Network (MTN). BLS courses are normally offered within 1-5 days of entry on duty. No online certifications will be accepted.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
