Description of Position:
The Divisional Music and Creative Arts Director (DMCAD) is responsible for the overall organization, teaching, and development of all components related to the Pendel music and creative arts field, including, but not limited to, corps and divisional Worship Bands, brass bands, songsters, timbrels, singing companies, piano, vocal instruction, dance, drama (junior and senior), and the spiritual development of music participants.
The DMCAD will be responsible for assisting the corps with developing music and creative arts programming that supports their worship and outreach services.
In partnership with the Assistant Divisional Music Director (ADMD) and the Assistant Divisional Creative Arts and Special Events Coordinator (ADCADSEC), the DMCAD's work will be accomplished through individual corps visits, and the organization and development of divisional ensembles, summer musicamps, conservatories and leadership seminars.
This position will emphasize spiritual leadership, discipleship and mentoring incorporated in all aspects of music and creative arts rehearsals, instruction, and performance in the Pendel division.
ResponsibilitiesDUTIES Work to ensure the primary goal of all ministries conducted out of the Music and Creative Arts department are Christ centered, leads the program participants to a deeper relationship with Christ, and aligns with our mission.
Chair and organize monthly Divisional Music and Creative Arts Committee meetings to formulate plans and policy for music programming within the Pendel Division.
Attend divisional events and organize music support, as needed.
Plan, organize, promote, implement, and attend divisional music and creative arts events, such as the Fall and Spring concerts, etc.
Attend, plan, promote, and implement, in cooperation with the Youth Department, the Ladore Conservatory and Musicamp weeks, taking every opportunity within the summer camp context to develop future leadership.
Stay at Camp Ladore during summer to provide program, music, and arts support.
Coordinate the participation of Pendel youth musicians and creative artists in territorial initiatives, including, but not limited to, Star Lake Musicamp, Territorial Arts Conservatory, Star Search, TAM, Cast, NYSB Future All-Stars, and ETS Singing Stars.
Maintain the divisional music library and instrument resources.
Assist the Community Relations and Development Department with proposals, as needed, for grants to sustain the music and creative arts programming, as well as include coordinating the annual proposals and disbursements of the Clementi funding for Philadelphia Corps.
Oversee and coordinate the divisional music and creative arts ensembles, establishing leadership for the groups and work to maintain the highest standards.
The groups are as follows:
The Pendel Brass, Singers, Timbrelists, Drama Arts, and Dance Troupes The Pendel Youth Band, Chorus, Timberlists, Drama Arts, and Dance Troupes Pendel Prep Academy, Bands, Chorus, Timbrelists, Drama Arts, and Dance Troupes.
Divisional Worship Band Provide musical support for divisional assemblies and rallies, as requested.
Organize musical ensembles for special events, as requested, by DHQ and field units.
Provide training for corps leaders on how to begin and then sustain a music and creative arts program on the local level.
Implement an outcome-based measurement tool to determine the musical progress of the music and arts program participants.
Develop goals for the corps and division related to music and arts ministries, and work with the music and creative arts staff to meet these goals.
Maintain timely, attractive, and efficient communication of events to the division, corps, members of bands/ensembles and a general mailing list through letters and email.
Provide updates for the DHQ web site and periodic newsletters.
Serve as the divisional representative to the Territorial Music Committee and other committees, as requested.
Propose and manage Music and Creative Arts department budget.
Regularly visit corps throughout the division to monitor both the music and creative arts program and the effectiveness of the Music and Arts staff.
Manage scheduling of all above groups with the Program Secretary for inclusion on Divisional calendar - planning rehearsals, concerts, trips, etc.
Perform related duties, as assigned.
QualificationsMINIMUM
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Arts in Music, Creative Arts, or related degree and experience; Masters preferred.
Minimum of 3 years' experience in the ministry field or related field.
Must be an active, uniformed Salvationist and remain active in a corps setting throughout employment.
Strong Christian testimony of faith and holiness, as this is a ministry position.
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills w/ ability to multi-task.
Must have a valid PA driver's license.
Must be able to teach all levels of music students and conductor/coordinate vocal or brass groups at a high level.
Must be knowledgeable in expressions of worship arts, including, but not limited to, dance, drama, step, timbrels, etc.
Ability to use Microsoft Office, Outlook, and TEAMS is required.
Must be self-motivated and able to work in a constantly changing environment.
Must be able to adhere to project and work deadlines.
As a Mandated Reporter, must provide proof of having completed training on recognizing and reporting child abuse meeting the training standards of PA Act 153 of 2014 within 30 days of employment with recurrent training required every five years thereafter.
Meet the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153, including the PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record Check.
