Day (United States of America)Bioinformatics Engineer III - Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (Philadelphia, PA):
Lead the data integrity and bioinformatics data analysis of enterprise-level projects in the Center for Data-Driven Discovery in Biomedicine (D3b).
Duties include:
lead a bioinformatics data operational team responsible for the main bioinformatics analysis of several pediatric brain tumor research projects, including the Children's Brain Tumor Tissue Consortium (CBTTC) and Cavatica, a cloud-based platform for pediatric cancer research; lead the genomics harmonization, including bioinformatics pipeline development and data analysis, for the Gabriella Miller Kids First Pediatric Research and other D3b programs; design and lead the development of next generation sequencing (NGS) pipelines and workflows of high complexity for whole genome and exome sequencing, RNA-Seq sequencing analysis, and transcriptome analysis; analyze research project data by manipulating bioinformatics data in a cloud environment and managing bioinformatics applications (BWA, Samtools, Picard, etc.
) using the CWL and SnakeMake workflow languages; develop bioinformatics tools and applications for the Unix/Linux platform and cluster environment; establish high-speed data flows from data-generating groups to data analysis; participate in the development of enterprise-wide bioinformatics systems and optimize those systems for sustainability; lead the implementation of the processing, storage, and manipulation of bioinformatics data in a cloud environment (Amazon Web Services/ Google Cloud Platform); develop processes for effectively using large-scale, cloud-based, bioinformatics storage frameworks; lead the technical team to establish and maintain appropriate levels of availability, response time, and performance of bioinformatics software and systems; and serve as a Subject Matter Expert and mentor and train new employees, students and interns in the application of best practices for bioinformatics, as needed.
Requires a Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree deemed to be the equivalent of a U.
S.
Bachelor's degree) in any applicable field such as Computer Science and 7 years of related experience, including experience developing NGS pipelines for whole genome and exome sequencing, and RNA-sequencing and transcriptome analysis, and developing tools and applications for the Unix/Linux platform and cluster environment.
