o Job Description Summary We are looking for four Publishing Directors (PDs). Two roles in Life Sciences, Social Sciences and Economics (LSSSE) and two roles in Health and Medical Sciences (HMS). As we are entering in the next phase of the Tiger Teams, there are now two permanent PS positions, one in LSSSE and one in HMS. In addition, as a result of expansion of the teams, both LSSSE and HMS have another two permanent PD openings. o Job Description Summary This role is part of the Science, Technology and Medical Journal (STMJ) Publishing Organisation. There are 3 vertical publishing units:
Life Sciences & Social Sciences, Physical Sciences and Health & Medical Sciences, headed up by a SVP. Each unit has 5 to 8 scientific/specialty areas, headed up by a Publishing Director, and is responsible for the strategic approach to their specific audiences which consist of, amongst others, authors, editors, researchers and societies etc. The Publishing Director is part of the management team within one of the vertical teams. He/She has an ambassadorial role to work effectively with multiple stakeholders within the Elsevier organization, such as Operations, Global Sales, Corporate Markets, Clinical Key etc. This role will have a particular focus on developing the strategy around Content Development, Open Access publishing and new (information) product development related to their subject area. And secondly to ensure that their Publishing staff executes the strategy accordingly. They play an instrumental role in developing and maintaining a network of the relevant key decision makers within the relevant subject area. Leadership & People Management (30%) Lead and develop an experienced and successful team based in multiple locations. Ability to work with a team and stakeholders often in a matrix set up. Identify and grow talent within the business identifying opportunities for developing and motivating employees. Strategic choices, business plans and Responsibility Centers/budget. (20%) Provide strategic direction to the business, creating content and other opportunities in an environment of changing access models and customer needs. Strong entrepreneurial approach with ability to translate the opportunities for growth into concrete new and existing journal products and revenues. Network and relationship management & development. (10%-20%) Make an immediate impact and build and maintain a strong network both with, and beyond, current Elsevier editors, authors and societies; develop a strong connection/affiliation with scientific and medical community and associated stakeholders such as funding bodies. Can lead complex industry discussions with high level University/Research Industry stakeholders. Content Development (15%) Has overall responsibility for the journal product portfolio with emphasis on content growth and quality strategy. Managing content growth organically and by (title) acquisition as well as managing innovation of content formats and content extensions and channels Portfolio development, Acquisition, Non-subscription revenue, contracts & Society liaison (10%-20%) Overseeing the overall portfolio management, including development of non-subscriptional commercial opportunities. Overseeing and where necessary guiding negotiation of editorial and title contracts. Ad hoc projects (5%) Participate in projects that are run in Elsevier that require STMJ representation.
Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
Minimum Qualification
Life SciencesEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
