CHOP s Medical Behavioral Unit (MBU) is the first pediatric unit of its kind, which brings together a unique collaboration between the Departments of Pediatrics and Psychiatry.
This 10-bed locked unit, which opened in 2017, serves a special inpatient population comprised of medical patients, behavioral patients, and those with medical and psychiatric needs.
The MBU specializes in seeing patients who have both medical and psychiatric disorders that cannot be treated independently.
The patients, ages 2 and up, are treated by a multidisciplinary team made up of medical attending, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, attending psychiatrist, psychiatric NP, psychologist, unit social worker, behavior analyst, case manager, child life specialist, therapy services, and other off-floor consulting teams.

The 22-bed Adolescent inpatient unit APP team consists of NPs and PAs that provide 24/7 coverage.
The unit sees patients ages 10 and above who are admitted with medical diagnoses, psychiatric emergencies, and/or malnutrition.
The interdisciplinary team consists of medical attendings, APPs, residents, nurses, social workers, a consulting behavioral health team, as well as therapists and specialists.
APP team members are active in Quality Improvement, Harm Prevention, Evidence Based Practice and Research.
