A Brief OverviewThe Research Technician II with a Bachelor's degree in the biological and chemical sciences or a related scientific discipline will participate in translational neonatal neuroscience research projects under the direction of Drs.
Joe Vithayathil (https//www.

edu/doctors/barber-danielle) at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania.
Drs.
Vithayathil and Barber are each physician-scientists studying a mouse model of perinatal hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE).
HIE affects 2 in 1000 live births and has lasting consequences for the survivors.
Dr.
Vithayathil studies iron metabolism and oxidative stress in this model, and Dr.
Barber studies sex differences in the brain immune response in this model.
We are seeking a Research Technician to support the mission of these projects with a minimum 2-year commitment.
The role will include mouse husbandry, assisting with mouse surgery, mouse behavior, and laboratory skills including mouse brain sectioning, mounting, immunohistochemistry, microscopy and image analysis.
The role will be shared 50-50 between Drs.
Vithayathil and Barber, who have an outstanding track record of working collaboratively.
The ideal candidate has experience working with rodents and/or in a bench laboratory setting.
Additionally they are curious, hard-working, have positive communication skills, are detail-oriented and well-organized.
Previous experience working with mice and/or in a basic neuroscience laboratory is highly desired.
Experience is a plus but not necessary; training will be provided.
What you will do Performs routine tests under the direction of principal investigator or supervisor Performs research procedures on experimental samples as directed Records and checks results for completeness and accuracy Performs calculations and maintains appropriate log and lab notebooks Performs tasks that require familiarity with fundamental techniques and equipment Assists with planning specific research protocols and procedures Maintains office, lab area, reagents, supplies and equipment Cleans and performs routine maintenance on lab equipment Coordinates schedules of tests & procedures Attends courses, seminars, and lab meetings to expand knowledge of research and laboratory techniques Records results, organizes data and maintains lab notebook in an organized manner Conducts literary searches as directed Education Qualifications Associate's Degree Required Bachelor's Degree Preferred Experience Qualifications At least six (6) months laboratory experience Required At least one (1) year laboratory experience Preferred Related internship experience Preferred To carry out its mission, CHOP is committed to supporting the health of our patients, families, workforce, and global community.
