A Brief OverviewThe microbial ARchive and Cryo-collection (mARC) is seeking a Research Tech II to support its bacterial culturing and cryobanking process.
mARC was established in 2021 under the PennCHOP Microbiome program and it briefly aims to cryo-bank both pathogens and commensal bacteria.
mARC uses an integrative approach of cryobanking viable cultures, as well as primary samples, patient data and performing whole genome sequencing for the pathogen/commensal.
A Web platform is under construction where researchers will be able to easily search the collection and their associated genomes, and request strains or primary samples.
The Research Tech II position requires expertise in in bacterial culturing, DNA purification, and PCR based reactions.
Preferred candidate will have a background in microbiology.
The successful applicant will work independently with regular communication with mARC leadership.
What you will do Performs routine tests under the direction of principal investigator or supervisor Performs research procedures on experimental samples as directed Records and checks results for completeness and accuracy Performs calculations and maintains appropriate log and lab notebooks Performs tasks that require familiarity with fundamental techniques and equipment Assists with planning specific research protocols and procedures Maintains office, lab area, reagents, supplies and equipment Cleans and performs routine maintenance on lab equipment Coordinates schedules of tests & procedures Attends courses, seminars, and lab meetings to expand knowledge of research and laboratory techniques Records results, organizes data and maintains lab notebook in an organized manner Conducts literary searches as directed Education Qualifications Associate's Degree Required Bachelor's Degree Preferred Experience Qualifications At least six (6) months laboratory experience Required At least one (1) year laboratory experience Preferred Related internship experience Preferred To carry out its mission, CHOP is committed to supporting the health of our patients, families, workforce, and global community.
As a condition of employment, professionals working onsite-at any CHOP location, for any portion of time-must be vaccinated for COVID-19.
